Vintage Military Vehicle Convoy to
Commemorate D-Day 70th Anniversary
On June 7th, 2014 a convoy of WWII-era
military vehicles will travel around the Salt Lake Valley to commemorate the 70th
anniversary of the Allied landings in the Normandy region of France. The convoy
will depart from Camp Williams and travel north to Fort Douglas in SLC, UT via
the west side of the valley. After a brief stop at Fort Douglas, the convoy
will then depart south returning to Camp Williams.
Convoy Schedule is as follows:
10:00 am – Departure from Camp Williams
11:30 -12:00 – Estimated Arrival at Fort Douglas Military
Museum (32 Potter Street, SLC)
12:45 – Departure from Fort Douglas
2:00 – 2:30 pm – Arrival at Camp Williams
We anticipate and welcome the participation of WWII
veterans and their families. To coordinate veteran participation please contact
Lance Jensen (contact info above) or if you have a WWII era military vehicle
and would like to participate in the convoy.
The convoy event is officially recognized as the “D-Day
Rollout 2014.” Vehicles in the convoy are authentic military vehicles from the
1940’s and 1950’s owned by private individuals. The convoy is estimated to be
comprised of about 20-25 vehicles. The Utah National Guard is supporting this
event and will be providing facilities for convoy participants at Camp Williams
and will also be providing an escort of modern military Humvee vehicles.
